Tracking Removal
Link Sanitizer's main job is to remove those extra bits from web links that track your online activity. These extra bits are called "tracking parameters."
Imagine you're reading a story online, and someone adds little notes to the story that say things like, "This person came from a search engine!" or "This person clicked on an ad!" That's kind of what tracking parameters do.
They're added to web links to tell websites where you came from, what ads you clicked, and other things. They often look like this:
?utm_source=newsletter&fbclid=1234567890
Link Sanitizer looks for common tracking parameters and removes them from the link. It knows a lot of the most common ones, like:
utm_sourceutm_mediumutm_campaignfbclidgclid
And many more!
When you paste a link into Link Sanitizer, it checks for these parameters and removes them, leaving you with a cleaner, more private link.
- Privacy: Removing tracking parameters helps protect your privacy by preventing websites from tracking your online activity.
- Cleaner Links: Clean links are shorter and easier to share.
- Fewer Distractions: Sometimes, tracking parameters can make links look messy and confusing.
Let's say you have this link:
https://www.example.com/page?utm_source=newsletter&fbclid=1234567890&extra=something
Link Sanitizer will remove utm_source and fbclid, leaving you with:
https://www.example.com/page?extra=something
Link Sanitizer only removes known tracking parameters. There might be some less common parameters that it doesn't recognize.
