Cloud Sync

Cloud Sync allows you to back up and synchronize your modcore Extension Manager configuration across multiple devices using your browser's built-in cloud storage (Chrome Sync).

1. What is Cloud Sync?

Cloud Sync saves essential data from modcore Extension Manager to your Google Account's cloud storage. This ensures that your settings, rules, and profiles remain consistent when:

  • Switching computers
  • Reinstalling your browser
  • Using modcore EM on multiple devices

Note: Cloud Sync is a preview feature and is still in development. Avoid using it for critical backups, as bugs or data issues may occur.

2. Status & Usage

The Status & Usage section provides a live overview of the synchronization system:

  • Chrome Sync: Indicates whether your browser's sync service is active and enabled for extension data. If marked Inactive or with a Warning, sign into your browser and enable sync for extension data.
  • Auto Sync: Shows if periodic automatic synchronization is enabled.
  • Last Sync: Timestamp of the last successful synchronization.

Current Quota Usage

  • Cloud Sync operates under a 100 KB data limit (102,400 bytes).
  • A progress bar shows total usage and percentage.
  • Warnings appear if usage exceeds 75% or 90%.

Quota Breakdown: Shows how much space each category consumes (e.g., Automation Rules, Groups, Profiles, Preferences).

3. Sync Options

Customize Cloud Sync behavior in the Options panel:

Selective Sync

Choose what data to back up by checking or unchecking categories:

  • Automation Rules
  • Groups
  • Profiles
  • Preferences

Automatic Syncing

  • Enable Automatic Background Sync: Periodically saves your data automatically
  • Sync on Browser Startup: Runs a sync every time Chrome launches
  • Automatic Sync Interval: Choose from intervals ranging 1 hour to 24 hours

Retention Policies

  • History Retention Policy: Keep the last versions or delete entries older than a specified number of days
  • Log Retention Policy: Keep the last sync log entries or delete older entries

Data Management: Export History or Log to CSV for external backup or review

4. Manual Actions

Immediate control over synced data:

Manual Sync

  • Sync to Cloud: Save your current local configuration immediately to the cloud
  • Restore from Cloud: Replace your local configuration with the latest cloud version. Conflicts prompt you to Keep Local or Overwrite with Cloud

Danger Zone

  • Clear All Cloud Data: Permanently deletes all synced modcore EM data from your Google account. Use with caution.

5. Version History

Keeps track of all backed-up versions:

  • Filter History: Search and filter versions by content or date range
  • History List: Each entry shows:
    • Source (Manual or Automatic)
    • Data categories included
    • Restore button to revert local settings to that version

6. Sync Log

A detailed record of all sync events:

  • Filter Log: Search and filter messages by content or date range
  • Log Entries: Each entry contains:
    • Timestamp
    • Status indicator (success, error, info)
    • Message detailing the event
    • Show Details button for additional technical information (if available)
