Question about Maintenance and Contribution #198

as stated in other issues I've just started using this app today. I've noticed a bunch of open issues that seem pretty minor/normal to fix but are open since a rather long time. Also it seems the commit history isn't that frequent (but maybe there is work going on without visible activity).
So I wanted to ask what is the status of this project/app? Is it in "just maintenance mode"? Can we (users) expect improvement? in what time frame?
Additionally, I wanted to ask what the "contributing rules or guidelines" are since I haven't found any on the readme. Do you prefer just issues with some details, full PR (in what detail?). Any chances of "joining in" on the project itself or helping out otherwise?
As I understand this is basically a single-dev (probably) hobby project so I assume time to work on this is very limited (and motivation might not be there all the time). But users should know the status I think to better evaluate the application for their use - is the time invested (change of workflows) a good investment at the end or not, will the app die sooner than later?
I really, really love the idea of the app as this is basically something I long wanted and just found out, I see much potential and it seems to be very good already just needs improvements. I would love to help if that's possible (by contribution or otherwise).
All things considered, if this is a "dead" project or just in maintenance mode then I would rather fork it (and tweak some things myself) or look for an alternative.
