less command not functioning

I've been trying out the game through the link provide (http://www.mprat.org/Terminus/) and have run into an issue trying to use the 'less' command to interact with the items listed in each location. No matter where I am, the 'less' command only returns the output, "There is no ITEM here" regardless of the item I input. I have tried typing the items exactly as listed, as well as using tab auto complete to enter the item's name, but nothing I do seems gets anything other than the output, "There is no ITEM here." I know the item names are case sensitive, and as far as I can tell, I have not made any errors in my inputs. Here is a screen shot of two attempts at using less:
