Applet debugging

I was trying to adapt some older applets for sysmoISIM-SJA2 cards, and this buildchain seems to work, but I was wondering how do y'all debug your applets?

The .CAP file is generated, shadysim-ISIM is able to load/install the applet, and it appears active/selectable under the applet list. When I navigate to the SIM Toolkit app and select our applet from the menu it doesn't launch. Or, I should say that the expected results aren't visible.

Does everyone use Eclipse plug-ins for debugging or some kind of javacard simulator? I'm trying to find something that allows me to do on-card debugging either from the desktop or, preferably, the phone.
