<hls-video>: Frame freezes for a few seconds after fastSeek()

After calling fastSeek() on the <hls-video> element, the displayed frame updates but remains frozen for a few seconds. After that, video playback resumes normally. Audio playback is unaffected.

I also tried setting .currentTime, but most of the time I receive the following error:
