Usage of System.halt

I recently started using this library to test out integration with MX Atrium. It looks like the library makes use of System.halt in a few different places to simply exit on error. Is there a reason for doing this instead of simply throwing an error or returning some kind of {:error, message} structure? I'm new to Elixir as well, so is this common practice?

For the first iteration, the mentality was "get it up and running". I don't think there is any particular reason past that.

The typical elixir pattern would be to have normal functions return {:ok, type} | {:error, reason} and include a separate danger (function!) function that returns the result or raises an exception
