Can Hover Editor ignore the sidebars?

I often have open a sidebar with the outline and linked mentions panes. I understand that Hover Editor gives you a popover that is a "full instance" rather than a preview – I very much appreciate it for that reason. However, is it possible to use it to preview a note without it causing the sidebars to go crazy? It is quite jarring to find the outline and linked mentions flip around when I do this. Or to give another example, when I have the file properties sidebar open, I often find the switch back and forth between notes is so fast that I get a flash of a bright red "Invalid properties" warning before it displays the original notes properties once again.

For me, and I suspect for many, it would be better to leave the sidebar in place when previewing the note – just as the default popover does. Of course I understand that this might just be the way it has to be, given the functionality we gain! But I think user experience would be improved by having the ability to adjust this behaviour. Thanks in advance for considering this! Hugely grateful for the plugin.

Turn off the "auto focus" setting in Hover Editor's settings, then the sidebars will only change if you click in the popup.

A surprising amount of issues/complaints are caused by having that setting on, and I'm tempted to phase it out entirely. But it definitely should not be the default, so I think I'll stop it being the default first.

Hi @pjeby, thanks for a quick response, and sorry to have wasted your time over this. I was toggling Auto Focus and it wasn’t changing anything – but what I should have done is update the plugin first! After updating the plugin, the Auto Focus now does exactly as you say.

I can see the usefulness of auto focus for quickly switching modes, making edits and all of that – but yes, personally I agree with your sense that having it off is a better default!

Thank you again! This plugin is a tremendous enhancement, with all kinds of benefits. For example, I find having the full editor in the popover makes it so low friction to quickly review the backlinks of a linked note that the next level of connection ("links of links"/neighbours) is made 100% more accessible.
