I have a .devcontainer configuration that sets up docker compose so that I can have my database etc. setup for local development. Similarly, I like to use supabase which also uses docker compose to generate the relevant resources for the project. It would be helpful to be able to give the model access to an environment with these things setup.

Therefore, can I run docker in docker?

Same need here. I use an Alpine-based container that boots up a Moodle instance with a full web server to run integration tests. However, I'm facing issues when trying to run docker-compose inside that container — even with Docker-in-Docker (DinD) configured, it doesn't seem to behave as expected in this setup.

In my case, the environment includes PHP-FPM, Nginx, and Moodle inside the container, and I need to spin up additional containers (e.g. for database mocks) during test execution.

I've been successfully using Docker in Docker with Coder with sysbox-runc, Running AI Agents with Full Development environment is awesome to work with. Currently using Claude Code and was thinking to give Codex a try, So I won't have to manage the Coder Deployment but the feature lacks is a blocker for me.
