Hi Ollie - this sounds great(!), and sorry, I didn't see the message until now. Ok, some steps to migrate are outlined here: https://eleanorfrajka.github.io/template-project/gitorg_transfer.html. We could chat about any that don't make sense? |

Hi Ollie,
Thanks for the updated version using xarray and dask.
I am perfectly fine with migrating it to AMOCcommunity.
I have developed notebooks to work with the OSNAP line and the xarray
enabled version of METRIC will help with the integration.
Ollie, if you are OK with it, I would like to update the version hosted at
NCAR with your version as well. I will add you as a contributor.
Cheers,
Fred

Hi both, apologies not to get back to you on this sooner, I didn't catch a notification when the thread had been updated. Fred: I'd be happy to contribute my changes to the NCAR version of METRIC and then use this as the starting point for the migration to AMOCCommunity following Eleanor's instructions above. If you're happy to add me as a maintainer, I can begin the process of including my changes. I'd also be very keen to help get your OSNAP workflow into the latest METRIC as this would be super valuable to the community. Eleanor: I'll include an update here once we've got Step 1 sorted on updating the METRIC original repository and we're ready to begin Step 2 - migrating the repo to AMOCCommunity. |

Hi Ollie,
This is great that you are willing to help with the METRIC code.
I can definitively add you as a developper on the github repo.
Maybe we should have a meeting with Eleanor and Gokhan (cc'ed) to discuss
the bigger picture and where we want to go exactly with the METRIC package
bofore we start to modify the existing code?
What are your respective availibilities the coming weeks?
Cheers,
Fred

Hi Fred - I don’t know if you need me at the meeting, but I’d be happy to join. I’m at sea at the moment but could probably make a meeting. Our internet here is reasonable.
Cheers,
Eleanor

Hi Fred, Happy to join a meeting to discuss this further, there is quite a bit of interest from NOC in contributing to METRIC (we're using the updated package regularly). I'm available on Tuesday, Wednesday & Friday afternoons (BST) for the next two weeks to join a meeting online, so happy to be flexible and work around your schedules. Thanks, Ollie |

Hi all,
My name is Ollie, I'm a research scientist at the National Oceanography Centre, UK. Thanks for setting up the AMOCcommunity organisation, I think this is a fantastic initiative.
In the last 6 months, I've been working on refactoring the METRIC package originally developed by Frederic Castruccio @fredc and Gokhan Danabasoglu at NCAR on this fork (https://github.com/oj-tooth/metric). The METRIC package is a fork of the RapidMoc package, which extends the calculation of observation-like transports in ocean general circulation models to other observing arrays. In refactoring the package, my aim so far has been to allow for the reading of multiple input files in parallel using xarray and dask.
I know of a number of people who are using this latest version of the package, so wanted to discuss the possibility of migrating it to the AMOCcommunity? I'm still intending to support the package and add further configuration examples, but this organisation seems like a great fit. Naturally, I'd be keen to know if @fredc & Gokhan would support this?
Ollie
