MemoServ message encryption

Someone, recently, brought this topic on IRC.

The question is:

• Is there any real benefit on having memos being stored encrypted, especially since we have the option to receive the memo content via email?

I'd love to know what others think about this.

There's no way to reasonably implement this and it provides a false sense of security because the message has to pass through the server unencrypted anyway. IRC is not an e2e encrypted protocol and if your threat model makes that a problem you should probably use Signal or something else instead.
