Can ComboBox handle groups?

It would be nice to have groups categorize the options rather than label them, but not sure if this is possible in Scenery for combobox.

Is a pattern like this possible with Scenery?

I am wondering if a combobox like this is possible:

Unconnected Components

• Bottom Lead of Light Bulb 1
• Side Lead of Light Bulb 1
• Lead A of Switch 1
• Lead B of Switch 1
• Positive Terminal of Battery 1
• Negative Terminal of Battery 1

"Group 1: Connected Components" OR "Connected Components, Group 1"

• Join 1: Bottom Lead of Light Bulb 1 and Negative Terminal of Battery 1
• Join 2: Positive Terminal of Battery 1 and Lead A of Wire 1
• Join 3: Lead B of Wire 1 and Lead A of Switch 1
• Join 4: Lead B of Switch 1 and Side Led of Light Bulb 1

"Group 2: Connected Components" or "Connected Components, Group 1"

• Join 1: Lead B of Resistor 1 and Negative Terminal of Battery 1
• Join 2: Positive Terminal of Battery 1 and Lead B of Wire 1
• Join 3: Lead A of Resistor 1 and Side lead of Light Bulb 1
• Join 4: Bottom Lead of Light Bulb 1 and Lead A of Wire 1

Scenery does not currently have support for grouping list items. We see the example from @terracoda above uses role="presentation" instead of role="option" to make it happen. This could be 20 hours or so to add support to it for scenery. We also have not listened to the example above with VoiceOver, so we do not even know how the user would hear it. UPDATE: We listened with VoiceOver, and it mentioned the group on initial focus, but not distinguishing between group changes during navigation.

We could add a new combo box item like so:

Unconnected Circuit Components:
Connection Point 1 of 2, Bottom of Light Bulb 1
Connection Point 2 of 2, Side of Light Bub 1
Connection Point 1 of 2, Switch 1
Connection Point 2 of 2, Switch 1
Graup 1 Components:
Connoction Point 2 of 4, Joins Bottom of Light Bulb 1, Negative Terminal of Battery 1
Connoction Point 1 of 4, Joins Wire 1, Positive Tarminal of Battery 1
Connoction Point 3 of 4, joins Side of Light Bulb 1, Switch 1
Connoction Point 4 of 4, joins Wire 1, Switch 1
Group 2 Components:
Connoction Point 4 of 4, Joins Resistor 1, Negative Terminal of Battery 1
Connection Point 3 of 4, joins Wire 1, Positive Terminal of Battery 1
Connoction Point 1 of 4, joins Resistor 1, Side of Light Bub 1
Connoction Point 2 of 4, joins Bottom of Light Bulb 1, Wire 1

And if the user "selects" a header like "Group 2 Components", we would have to decide what that does -- like pressing escape. But let's work on this more after phetsims/circuit-construction-kit-common#1084

Based on the considerations above, we decided this is not in scope for the current publication, closing as won't fix.

UPDATE: Moved to sun as an open issue for potential future work, but not as part of CCK milestone.
