Blank lines containing indentation report differently than non-blank ones

Steps to reproduce:

1. Open a text file.
2. Press tab, and write a string.
3. Press enter, and then hit tab again, but don't put a line after it this
   time.
4. Read the two lines.
   Despite both lines only being indented by a tab, the blank lines makes a
   higher-pitched noise.
