Create firstboot script to auto-delete leftover VMware files for linux VMs #1248

@sarika-pf9

Description

@sarika-pf9

When we move VMs from VMware to OpenStack, the old VMware tools are uninstalled, but they leave behind useless folders and log files. These "ghost" files clutter the system and can confuse our monitoring tools.

Create firstboot script to automatically find and delete these specific leftover folders when the VM starts up in OpenStack.

What to Delete:

  • Settings: /etc/vmware-tools
  • Data: /var/lib/vmware
  • Old Software Files: /usr/lib/vmware-tools & /usr/lib/open-vm-tools
  • Logs: Any file in /var/log/ starting with vmware-
