Proposal for Discord usage #12

@mattjmorrison

Description

@mattjmorrison

We should have some on-boarding stuff to show people around discord, what channels there are, and how they're used, etc...

Roles

There will be a steering-committee role that will allow users with that role access to additional discord channels.

Anyone who wants will be added to this role, they can request that by sending a message to the pyowa-requests public channel

Moderation

Steering Committee will remove any items at their discretion primarily to remove any spam and/or offensive content. Steering Committee should communicate any moderation actions taken in the steering-committee channel

Channels

#pyowa-requests

  • This is a public channel
  • This channel can be used by anyone to make requests of the steering committee
  • For example: "Can I be added to the steering committee?"

#steering-committee (currently called #organizers)

  • This is where the steering committee can touch base on whatever needs to be discussed (maybe this is where we can also hold the weekly meeting on the stage?)
  • This channel will be restricted to discord users with the steering-committee role.

#meeting-announcements

  • This is a public channel
  • This would be a readonly channel
  • Public will be allowed to react via emoji to announcements

#introductions

  • This is a public channel
  • people would be encouraged to introduce themselves to the group here
  • include this in the beginning of the on boarding process

#general

  • This is a public channel
  • primarily just community conversations on whatever is on everyone's mind

#jobs

  • This is a public channel
  • anyone can add links to job postings here

#sponsors

  • This is a public channel
  • This will be a readonly channel
  • maybe allow emoji & threads?
  • Steering Committee can post info/blurbs/links about sponsors to boost visibility

#peps

  • This is a public channel
  • This will be a readonly channel
  • automated posts based on what peps are created
    • we should post when a pep is moved into RFC, Accepted, or Rejected

#meeting-topics

  • This is a public channel
  • discussions about future meeting topics?
