Pushover error when using proxy

I'm trying to use pushover behind a web proxy (http, non login, open), and get the following error from PushOver:

"messages to users other than the creator of this application (...) must be sent over TLS/HTTPS to https://api.pushover.net/"

It seems that your proxy code is not connecting to https - but only http.

Can you please advise on this issue?

Do you know what software the proxy is running?
