Remote MCP server?

Any chance you're thinking about creating a remote version? I'd love to be able to access this when out and about.

Haven't really looked at remote MCP servers yet, but ill add it to my to do. If I can figure out the security piece, ill definitely add it

FYI @tbharthur this is now easy to do using Claude's "Dispatch" function. So long as the machine you have installed the MCP on is running, you can have the dispatched agent open a Claude Code session and utilize the MCP.

Not elegant, but beats having to mess with the security and hosting of a remote MCP.

I did try a cloudflared --tunnel remote MCP approach that worked with Claude's Custom Connectors, but I didn't want to pay for a domain to the endpoint persistent nor did I want to invest in a desktop nor deploy to the cloud, so I abandoned it.

You can use tailscale if you want to connect some of your personal devices to a locally running remote mcp server. I do that all the time to test remote MCPs locally in Cowork before deploying. Free tier gives you 3 connected devices. Depends on how comfortable you are with the data going through a different service of course.

Benefits of using that over something like an ngrok tunnel is it is only accessible by devices in the VPN.
