Another minor issue

Steps to repro

1. Start the app from afresh (no data)
2. The app loads up with example data
3. Force quit the app via terminal or task manager

Expected: App saves data before closing
Current: App closes without saving sample data

Team's Response

The sample data is not changed and therefore there is nothing to save. If the user opens the app again, they will have the same (sample) data as before.

If you change the sample data, ContactMate then correctly saves the data to the json file.

Reason for disagreement: I disagree with the teams decision to reject this issue. I understand where the team is coming from in their response, and this issue is in fact minor (low severity) because there isn’t a potential for data loss as of yet. However I think that this bug is still a valid concern that should be tracked for future purposes:

• When your app holds data in-memory for the user to browse, it is completely within user expectation that, should the app encounter a fatal error and has to force close, it will always try its best to preserve its current state on disk.
• In this case, because the app always writes-through to the disk, the issue should be considered as NotInScope. If the app becomes more complex and begins to hold unsaved state (UI state, for example) in memory, then this will become a legit issue.

Definition of NotInScope:

For the above reasons, I think this issue should at least be classified as NotInScope for now, and not be outright rejected.
