haplogrep on non-human species

Dear all,
Is it possible to run haplogrep2 on non-human species to identify haplogroups? If not, what additional information would I need if I wanted to set this up on another model organism?
Apologies for the very general questions, I have tried the link to the google groups discussion forum, but that appears to be non-functional.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Basically possible but you would to set up a tree structure similar to Phylotree.
