Backups are not saved in user backups directory and cannot be accessed

Hi,

I’m encountering an issue with the backup system. Although the backup process reports success and shows entries in the backup list, the actual backup files are not saved in the user’s backups directory.

Additionally, the listed backups cannot be downloaded or restored.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Run a backup from the panel
2. Wait for the process to complete (success message is shown)
3. Check the backups list in the panel
4. Check the user backups directory on the server

Expected behavior:
• Backup files should be saved in the user’s backups directory
• Backups should be available for download
• Backups should be usable for restore

Actual behavior:
• Backup files are not present in the backups directory
• Backups appear in the panel list but cannot be downloaded
• Restore functionality does not work

Environment:
• Panel version: v0.9-rc126
• OS: Debian 13

Additional notes:
It seems like the backup process completes without errors, but the files are either not generated or stored in an unexpected location.

The backup system does check if the repository is initialized and auto-creates it if needed. Backups are stored in a Restic repository (either local at /var/backups/jabali/restic or a remote destination if configured), not as regular files in the user's home directory, so you won't see them as files on disk.

If download and restore also don't work, it's likely the encryption password wasn't set up. Can you check if /etc/jabali/restic-password exists on your server? If not, run jabali backup password --set=YOUR_PASSWORD to create it, then try again.

Also run jabali logs share and send me the ticket ID so I can check the backup logs.

First of all, great work on the Jabali backup feature — it looks really good and offers a lot of useful options 👍

I did notice a couple of things that could improve it further:
• PostgreSQL databases don’t seem to be included in the backup process
• It would be very helpful to have a full server backup option (including all users), instead of having to select each user individually
• Since we can already download backups, having an option to upload/restore a backup file directly from the panel would be very convenient

These additions would make the backup system much more complete and easier to use.

Can you try to see if it works for you now?
On the server, run:
cd /path/to/jabali-backup && git pull && sudo ./install.sh
Or if jabali-backup update is already installed, just:
sudo jabali-backup update
systemctl restart jabali-panel.service

I have found some bugs in the module, I guess there are more testing needs to be done.

Hi,

I’ve done some more testing on the backup system — overall it looks really good and promising, and I like the direction 👍
However, I found a few issues and some areas that could be improved:

Issues:
• n Disaster Recovery (full server backup), it does not seem to create a complete backup of the entire server (including all users and their data). The resulting archive is only a few KB, which clearly indicates something is not working as expected
• “Browse server backups” returns a 404
• The Logs tab doesn’t seem to work anymore after the latest update
• PostgreSQL data is not included in backups — I only see MySQL-related data/folders
• When downloading a snapshot, the selection list doesn’t seem to work — even if I select specific items, it downloads everything

Improvements:
• A delete button in the backups list would be very useful
• If multiple snapshots exist (per user or server), it would be great to clearly list them per user for better visibility
• Better clarity on what exactly is included in a “full server backup”

From my testing, PostgreSQL backup support might not be implemented or integrated yet (I only see MySQL), which is something I’ve seen in other panels as well where pgSQL backup is missing or partial.

I’ll continue testing and will come back with more feedback if I find anything else.
