In case you can't locate the .npmrc file in your home directory on ubuntu, try :

1. Run the command below on terminal to see where the globalconfig and the userconfig .npmrc files are found

npm config ls -l | grep config

2. Open the home directory in Files and press Ctrl + H to show all hidden files
3. You should see the .npmrc file, if not, check the .nvm folder
