The problem
The "Explosive" curse seems terribly unbalanced currently;
- Vanilla mechanics allow hiding behind a block and digging to freely explode nearby terrain making it "free" infinite TNT
- It is far more dangerous and obnoxious than any other curse, rendering the tool virtually useless for regular gameplay
- The damage from the explosion is more effective against mobs than it is the wielder, except for the fact that it will destroy your base in the process!
I believe curses should be a downside that you may want to put up with to use a powerful tool, this curse does not fit that paradigm as it does not allow the tool to be used normally.
My solution
What if the explosion didn't do any damage to players or blocks, but only to items?
Mining with an Explosive tool would be bearable as you would have a chance of losing what you mine rather than blowing up the area, while mobs killed with an Explosive weapon would have a chance to yield nothing.
I think this would be far more intuitive and less intrusive on gameplay while still reaffirming that it is a curse.
Thank you.
