FUSION API Access

Hi there,
I recently explored the FUSION web platform and was highly impressed by its capabilities in integrating WSI with omics data. I am interested in understanding whether the analytical processes available on the platform could be made accessible through an API. This would greatly facilitate parallel processing on large datasets. I'm looking forward to your response.

Hello! Apologies for the delay. This is a great point and I'm happy that you enjoyed using FUSION. What kind of functionality would you be looking for in an API? This will give me an idea on what to prioritize.

I recently published a package (fusion-tools) which enables local visualization, plotting properties, combining frames in a multi-frame image, etc. It's still in early stages but I think it has a lot of potential for developing custom, interactive workflows on high-resolution images. As for large datasets, I can point you to the repos where specific plugins are although some input arguments would need to be adapted for files not hosted on a Digital Slide Archive instance.

Hi Sam, thanks for your response! I was asking about the API because I’m interested in whether it would allow for image segmentation on locally stored images, as well as the ability to adjust visualizations. I found your recent package, fusion-tools, really useful—thanks for developing it!

No problem! I'll add this to the roadmap for fusion-tools in addition to providing some examples on how to make custom components and some deep learning integrations. Whichever version of the Segment Anything Model (SAM) is out now would be a good choice but there's no reason something like this wouldn't also be useful for monitoring segmentation model predictions or incorporating some active learning approach.
