Pressing Ctrl for the first time since window focus loses selection highlight, making it harder to copy text

I frequently copy my operations to a text editor. To do so, I select some formulas with my cursor and press Ctrl+C.

But the first time you press Ctrl since focusing on the app, selection is lost (highlight disappears).

In the GIF above, when the cursor is moved to the center, user presses Ctrl and this causes selection to be lost.
The second time, user presses Ctrl but selection is preserved.

This makes it cumbersome to quickly copy and paste many results.

For the last result I now use Ctrl+R, but it's not enough to copy a series of formulas and their results.
