I'm a strong advocate of adding a toPlaceholder parameter standard to every snippet and the If snippet could certainly use one. (And while you're at it, would you add one to getReqParam as well?)

I've changed my mind. My preferred method has become the usage of he toplaceholder output filter. Not only does it work with all snippets, including the ones that do not include placeholders out of the box, but it has the added bonus of storing the results of a snippet, after it has been manipulated by output filters.
