Repeated keychain prompts for 'Claude Code-credentials' despite clicking 'Always Allow'

Description

CodexBar repeatedly prompts for keychain access to "Claude Code-credentials" even after clicking "Always Allow" with password entered. The prompt keeps reappearing indefinitely.

Steps to Reproduce

1. Install CodexBar
2. When keychain prompt appears for "Claude Code-credentials", enter password and click "Always Allow"
3. Prompt reappears shortly after (within seconds/minutes)

What I Tried

• Entering password + clicking "Always Allow" (multiple times)
• Opening Keychain Access → Claude Code-credentials → Access Control
• Verified CodexBar is listed under "Always allow access by these applications"
• Clicked "Save Changes" with password in Keychain Access
• Updated CodexBar to latest version (0.16.1)
• Prompt still reappears after all attempts

Environment

• macOS: 15.6 (Build 24G84)
• CodexBar: 0.16.1 (installed via Homebrew)
• Installation method: brew install steipete/tap/codexbar

Expected Behavior

Clicking "Always Allow" with password should permanently grant keychain access without repeated prompts.

Additional Context

This appears similar to #84 but affects Claude Code credentials specifically rather than Chrome Safe Storage.

after unchecking "Access OpenAI via web" and restarting the app it still shows these non-stop keychain prompts

It's Claude code related issue, toggling it off make these things disappear.

this works. I deny all requests to my keychain.

I also unchcked "show credits + extra usage"

Ya none of the mentioned solutions work for me either. So I just decided to uninstall it for now, since I rarely run into my quotas anyway. Might consider it again later when I run into limits more, and hopefully this issue gets fixed between now and then.

Hi everyone,

For anyone else experiencing this issue (including myself), I managed to avoid these Keychain Access issues by forcing Claude Code to be retrieved via OAuth API mode.

To do this:

• Disable “Disable Keychain access” in the “Advanced” tab, which will prevent any additional requests

• Select “Providers” → Claude Code → Source usage: OAuth API
• Next, you need to log in to Claude on the browser of your choice:
  - Open claude.ai in your browser.
  - Open DevTools → Application tab (Chrome) or Storage tab (Firefox).
  - In the left panel: Cookies → https://claude.ai.
  - Look for the cookie named sessionKey.
  - Copy its value
  - In CodexBar, paste it into the “Paste sessionKey or Auth token” field and add a label.

For those who are already logged in to the web version, I recommend logging out and then logging back in to get a token with a longer lifetime.

Also, it should be noted that this is not a long-term solution as you will have to repeat these steps from time to time, but it's still less annoying than those authorization windows popping up every hour... (cc @steipete)

Note: for those with other providers like Codex or Cursor, if you are using this method: unfortunately automatic Browser cookie import will be unavailable, you'll need to paste Cookie headers manually in Providers.
