Description
In SUD, idiom heads are marked with the feature PhraseType=Idiom. Another feature ExtPosindicates the POS of the idiom in relation to the outside. The internal syntactic structure of an idiom is represented like any syntactic structure in SUD and the tokens of the idiom are marked with the feature InIdiom=Yes. If no syntactic structure can be found, the tokens of the idiom are linked by unk relations from left to right.
In UD, only continuous idioms are represented and their internal structure is ignored. The tokens of the idiom are linked by fixed relations from left to right.
The problem is to convert discontinuous idioms from SUD to UD. This happens for pronominal verbs in French.
Example: Il s'est immédiatement enfui (He immediately fled)
In SUD, the pronominal verb s'enfuir is represented as an idiom.
enfui [PhraseType=Idiom, Extpos=VERB] --[comp]-> s'[upos=PRON,InIdiom=Yes]
In UD, the pronominal verb is represented as any non-idiomatic expression.
enfui --[dep:comp]-> s'
The universal rules for conversion from SUD to UD must be preceded by language-specific rules to deal with discontinuous idioms. The same applies to the rules for converting from UD to SUD.
