DNSNet Stops Running but Notification Shows as Active

I have been using DNS66 for a long time and it started to randomly stop running. In looking for a solution I found that the project was no longer active and found this project. I'm running Version 1.2.6 (F-Droid) on a Pixel 7 with Android 15.

I usually realize that it has stopped running because an ad will show up in an app that usually doesn't get to display ads. When I check the notification area, the notification shows DNSNet active but when i open the app it gives me the start symbol confirming that it is not running. This is the same problem I was having with DNS66.

I'm not sure if this is a bug, a settings issue, an Android issue or a me problem. I have read issue #14 but I am not sure if it means the always on issue has been fixed or even if that is really what I am dealing with. I checked and I do not have the ability to set it to always on.

Any guidance or assistance is appreciated.

I'm not quite sure what scenario would trigger this issue. Do you have a reliable way of triggering this? Otherwise, I can't do much.

Unfortunately, I have not been able to identify any trigger. I just find that it has stopped when I open another app and there is an ad.

Is there any way to log the application's starting and stopping? If I could figure out when it stops then I could look for coincidental events and see if the are any likely suspects.

I have the problem that the app closes after a certain amount of time, probably a few hours. The VPN connection is disconnected and the notification is gone. I can't see any pattern.
Perhaps the LOG file will help.

I have the exact same issue as described.
I've noticed it happens in the morning after I have woken. First use of an app will have ads displayed. DNSNet shows running, but it's not.

Have a similar issue. For me DNSNet just stops running on a regular basis, about once a day. Do not turn it off, do not restart my mobile, but the VPN just is not active anymore. Didn't get the cause by now, will open an issue if I found it.

Using DNS66 there was a setting "automatically restart" or "monitor VPN connection" or something like that, which prevented that situation while still allowing to stop manually or just activation of another VPN.

Detecting (some kind of optional watchdog) if DNSNet is active and working could also be the right way to handle the problem that it only seems running.

I see this bug is for almkst all host blocker... same goes for Athena,AdAway,ReThink,Athena and for DNSnet same
Its annoying as hell but idk,the only blocker doesnt affect that is AdGuard.
Maybe Sticky notifications could fix it but noone of above dont want to add that
