Hi,

Well i ran GC in LW 2018, World Machine .TMD files and also HiRise .IMG data files. HiRise came up with the UI but then stopped saying there was no layer data. I tried in LW 2015 and no problem loading HiRise data at all.

I'm testing with the files you sent as well as a selection of other files for all of the formats listed in the source. I'm seeing much the same you are. From the cpu usage, memory usage and timing, it appears the code is doing something to the data then gracefully and silently failing.

I'll let you know what I find once I get a debugger attached to the plugin while it's running.

Ive always thought it was a bit weird that you have to load something before the UI turns up, especially as you have to change from .LWO to any files to see what you are loading. It's better to click a plugin and then load from within the UI.

John, can you send me those files again? The 2018 working build was done a while ago and I want to test with those files to see if the problem still exists.

John, as for loading before the UI comes up, there would need to be a logic that differentiates between a user file-load and the system loading a height-file as part of a surface bump or other image map. Since you can apply any of the files that GC can handle to a surface anywhere you can apply an image map (ie..bump, displacement, etc...) you'd almost need to have two plugins.

The plugin is effectively an image-loader that generates geometry instead of populating the image list, though it will do that as well if applied to an image map in the surface editor.

I'll add that as a feature req, however, as it's a good idea and works hand-in-hand with some of the other UI changes I have in mind.

Which files do you need Scott. Here are some Dem, Terragen and Height stuff, the Mars .IMG you will have to get from the HiRise site as they are very big. The reason i was speaking about the UI is because i have had some Dem, .IMG and Terragen stuff that has not loaded and some crashed LW as well. Problem is with no UI pop up before hand you sometimes are left sitting there wondering is it taking its time or has it just crashed but not to desktop.

With the resurrection of Lightwave as living product and LW2023 coming in a month or so, I'm taking a look at this plugin again to get ready to update it for LW2023 if necessary. Taking a look at this bug again and confirmed the behavior is consistent in LW2020.0.3 as well as 2018.

In a quick test I did this morning, the e060N90.DEM file crashed it to desktop, but the N28W014.hgt works. Will be running this under a debugger soon to see where the break point is and why.
