Node 22.18 gives error "TypeError: Cannot read properties of undefined (reading 'require')"

When updating to node 22.18 we see the following error:

      TypeError: Cannot read properties of undefined (reading 'require')
      at Proxyquire.load (node_modules/proxyquire/lib/proxyquire.js:129:72)

How are you calling it? The tests pass on Node 22 so a repro is needed.

NodeJS Version: v22.18.0

usage:

The same tests also work on NodeJS 20.x

Same issue here on Node 22. My config uses babel, maybe that's why? It's fine with Node 20.

We have the same issue. Works with 22.17 but fails with 22.18.

I also encountered this error with Node 24.7.0. After skimming the CHANGELOG, it seems this issue is probably related to the type stripping introduced in 22.18. Try exporting NODE_OPTIONS="--no-experimental-strip-types".
