i have tried this code, the only response i received is "invalid user details". The code does not work.

Ya i got the same, I am able to store the data into my database but when I go to fetch the data and login, it fails to login. When i use the correct information that's stored on my database, I don't get the "invalid user details" error but it will just reload the login activity page.

Any idea on how to solve this yet?

Nvm, after playing around with the code for a few hours and debugging it, I found the error in the code for me. After fixing the error my Login app works perfectly for me now.

In "public User getLoggedInUser()" change the line "if (userLocalDatabase.getBoolean("loggedIn", false) == false): to "if (userLocalDatabase.getBoolean("loggedIn", false) == true)"

You will always get the "Invalid user details" error if the data you insert in the register activity doesn't get uploaded to your OWN server that you have created. So make sure you have inserted the correct Hostserver name, username, password, and database name into their own variables for both the Register and FetchUserData phps and upload them to your own server.

Sorry I am a beginner at coding and not sure if this is what you are after but it its depreciated then you are using to high of SDK version.

Therefore change a few things in build.gradle of your app to:

compileSdkVersion 21
buildToolsVersion "21.1.2"
minSdkVersion 18
targetSdkVersion 21
versionCode 1
versionName "1.0" 
compile 'com.android.support:appcompat-v7:22.2.0'

This works for me but make sure you have the correct SDK files downloaded

However it'd be nice if @tonikami (or anybody really, it's github after all) could change it so it's updated with the httpurlconnection code. All the other videos/instructions out there use httpclient instead =/

It'd be great for those of us who rely on tonikami's code to do their projects =)

Just to add on here that @tonikami also stores the user info (specifically the password) in plaintext
Would be great if you could show us how to incorporate bcrypt (see: https://github.com/ircmaxell/password_compat) into this to make it much more secure

Plain text is bad and you should feel bad =(

1. I'm able to write to the server (one entry at a time apparently) but I can't seem to login
I changed the boolean value like you said but when I open the app, it shows the page when a user has logged in. But the username, password fields are empty while age is -1 (yikes). Even android studios recommendation of removing the second boolean doesn't work =/

2. Logging out then logging back makes the "incorrect user details" box show up -_-
I'm guessing the problem lies under Login.java>authenticate having returnedUser == null for some reason and (ServerRequests.java) public class fetchUserDataAsyncTask<Void, Void, User> having the wrong parameters set (passing something to first void) @tonikami

Seems like yours completely work I presume? Can I take a peek? =D

EDIT: Fixed both issues, the code is the problem which should be fixed. However the act of storing plaintext is not recommended for those of you attempting to incorporate this project to your own project. Storing in plaintext is like asking for a hacker to take your account info.

Well since I can't see your code I can't help determine where your mistake is at. But for httpclient to work now the SDK build target has to be lowered to 21 as shown above since it has been depreciated in the newer SDK versions. Therefore, I have decided to switch over to httpurlconnections now since this is the better way of transferring data to the mysql database.
