What happened?
Issue Details
Users can currently only use Unraid's "Flash Backup" utility in order to back up their USB. However, this is NOT intended functionality.
When manually zipping the contents of an existing Unraid flash drive and uploading that to the USB creator tool via the "custom zip" option, Unraid does not boot because the USB creator does not properly extract the contents of the zip.
Currently am unsure if this is user-error, a problem with the USB Creator's extraction, or a problem elsewhere from Unraid.
Current Workarounds
Use the official "Flash Backup" button via your Unraid server and upload that .zip to the USB Creator Tool.
Steps to Replicate
-
Either Download Unraid & extract zip or Use an existing USB with Unraid
- Manual Unraid Install instructions
- Download Unraid via the archive
- Extract zip contents
- Use an existing Unraid USB
- Shutdown Unraid server and unplug the Unraid USB
- Plug into your computer
-
Now you should have a folder (either downloaded or from the USB) with Unraid
- Also, try using the zip downloaded from Unraid directly and see if that works (it should). If that doesn't, that's a problem and really whack, but I think it should. But if you manually zip it, it's not the case.
-
Highlight the contents of the folder and then zip all of it.
-
Upload that zip into USB Creator
-
Inspect contents after write and network configuration and identification settings should be incorrect/not what you had before. In general, things should look off.
-
Try and boot the backup drive --> it shouldn't boot.
