Awards / Achievements

There should be a way for staff to set up automatic, or "one-time" special awards or achievements to promote involvement with the community. On Waffles, this shows up as small icon-sized images in the user's profile and forum postbit.

Some examples:

• Post count
• upload count
• Top up/down stats users
• Contest Awards winners
• Special awards that are given at the discretion of staff (perhaps an "inside joke" or other reasons)

Things needed:

• Slug (used for granting achievements in code - it's probably easier than writing a rules engine, unless we want one of those anyway)
• Name
• Description
• Hidden? (i.e. hide name/description before granted)
• Image (large-style - 64x64? Useful for displaying in a Steam/XBL/PS3 style list)
• Mini-image (for display next to postbit)

Thoughts:

• Worth supporting both image/mini-image, or just let people adjust templates as necessary?

One thing I will mention, is that it should be fairly easy to create new awards.

The current process on Waffles is:

• Pick out image, and upload to Amazon CDN
• Take uploaded file path, and edit multiple PHP include files (awards are based on bitmasks, so you have to define the mask, then define what gets shown if the user has that award in multiple places: forums, user details)

All of this is a manual, (sys)admin process... in short, it's terrible.

Any person (with the right permissions) should be able to add or create new awards on-the-fly. We should probably support uploading to either a local directory, or through some CDN API (I think this is another thing to create an issue for). Or perhaps, we could store them in the database.
