How to ignore certain query parameters?

A site I'm scraping has some links that (apparently accidentally) include query parameters like ute_source and utm_medium. I've been trying to find a way to ignore them in way that just the main resource gets downloaded and links get updated correspondingly. I've tried writing a plugin that hooks into beforeRequest or getReference but neither appears to let me rewrite the URL in such a way.

Is there another way that I've overlooked?

beforeRequest should allow to change url and remove query params. Do you have some examples (html code of the website and your plugin) which reproduce the issue?
