I see many projects that were announced in gsoc'25 but they don't get selected. So if you submit them again in addition to some new projects, gsoc team may select some of these projects in the similar way... So I am curious, on what basis you anticipate you may not come in gsoc'26, can you share any note on that?

I’m Sasya, an undergraduate student interested in contributing to DeepForest ahead of GSoC 2026.

I’ve been exploring the open issues and discussions, but many of the available tasks are either already in progress or focused on UI / HuggingFace demos, which isn’t my area of strength. I’m more interested in backend, ML, or CV-related work (e.g., data loading, training, evaluation, utilities, or tests) to get familiar with the core DeepForest pipeline.

If you or the team could suggest a small, well-scoped code task where I could start contributing, I’d really appreciate the guidance.

I’m Jayant, and I’m following along for GSoC 2026. I was specifically excited to see the projects on Recovering CV annotations and Historical image data listed on the ideas wiki.

I have experience with Python and deep learning and am eager to contribute to the core DeepForest pipeline. Since many current issues are in progress or UI-focused, could you recommend a specific module within the repository that would be best for me to study to prepare for these historical data recovery challenges?

Hey folks - thanks for all of the contributions! Moving forward, please note that just running AI scans of the code base for bugs and then submitting AI fixes is not in itself useful. We need you to show when in the usual application of the software the bug occurs and what the impacts are. That way we 1) know that it's an actual bug; and 2) know whether to prioritize fixing it or not.

My name is Mubashar, and I am very excited about the project 'Recovering computer vision annotations from historical airborne imagery.' I saw the example images of the manual bird counting interface (with the dotted annotations), and I find the task of digitizing this historical data for modern ML models fascinating.
I am a Full-stack developer with strong skills in Python (NumPy, Pandas) and experience in Django/Next.js. While I have been working with standard Machine Learning (Scikit-learn), I am eager to apply my coding skills to Computer Vision and contribute to the DeepForest package.
I am ready to put in the hard work required for this 350-hour project. To get started and prove my commitment, I would like to ask:
Are there any specific libraries (like OpenCV or Segment Anything) you recommend I start practicing with for this recovery task?
Are there any beginner-friendly issues currently open in the DeepForest repo that I can help with to get familiar with the codebase?
I have my development environment ready and would love to start contributing before the official proposal period.

thank you for your question, I wanted to say: For GSoC 2026, the project ideas have already been defined by mentors and submitted before the deadline (Feb 3). You can find the official ideas here:

there are 2 project ideas, and you’re encouraged to choose one of them and shape your proposal around it. The scope can still be adjusted slightly, but it should stay aligned with those ideas.
