[Feature]: add async features

Is also within the goal to make the library async so it can be integrated more natively with the async engine in Home Assistant? I would be happy to contribute to this (as well as some other points previously exposed)

My recommendation here is to not go full async as it's a breaking change (if people use your code without asyncio, then this library stops working for them). This translates in having an interface that exposes all APIs we have already (so we don't change the API), but users will import the sync version or async version.

Regarding the http client, you may decide to drop requests in favor of httpx (https://www.python-httpx.org/) that offers both implementation with a simple API.
