Abib Bible Reader

A compact and fast Bible reader for your desktop or laptop. Abib helps you follow Scripture while listening to an online sermon or during personal study. It takes little room and has separate windows for the various parts.

What's to like in Abib

  • Quick: jump to any verse quickly with abbreviated book names and chapter verse like jo3.16
  • which is John 3:16 or 1th5.28 for 1 Thessalonians 5:28.
  • Compact: a tidy window that sits neatly beside video or notes
  • Simple 'Find': find words and phrases fast in the Bible.
  • Search the Books, Commentaries and Dictionaries, with the 'Search' button.
  • Built‑in daily readings: Spurgeon’s Morning & Evening
  • John Gill Exposition of the Entire Bible — click the Commentary button.
  • Extras: Pilgrim’s Progress and other classic works included
  • Light or Dark theme; font size you can adjust with Ctrl++ and Ctrl+-.
  • Works offline; no accounts, no telemetry.

Get Abib (Windows)

  1. Download the latest installer:
  2. Run the installer and follow the prompts.
  3. Launch “Abib” from your Start menu.

Quick start

  • Jump to a verse: type ge50.7 to go to Genesis 50:7 (use a period between chapter and verse)
  • Or use the three drop‑down boxes (Book, Chapter, Verse)
  • Search: open the Find dialog from the menu and enter a word or phrase
  • Daily reading: open the Devotional “Morning & Evening” by C. H. Spurgeon,
  • or use "Daily Light on the Daily Path".
  • Other books: use the bottom‑left drop‑down to open Pilgrim’s Progress and more.

For tips and shortcuts, see HELP.txt in the repository or the installed folder.

Questions

  • Updates: Abib can check for updates and offer to download when a new version is available
  • or only update when you want it to.
  • Privacy: Abib works offline. It only accesses the internet to check for updates.
  • License: Abib is free software (GPL‑3.0 or later). See LICENSE for details.
