This metainfo file based on the appstream format makes it easier to package an application for different packaging formats The metadata is based on what has been collected at https://linuxphoneapps.org/apps/agregore.mauve.moe/ This could also help in getting the application packaged as flatpak as it is required to submit the flatpak e.g. to flathub

I am not aware of it. But both Flatpak and electron-builder have their respective documentation for it: https://docs.flatpak.org/en/latest/electron.html and https://www.electron.build/flatpak.html. Also this file is not needed for building the flatpak itself, but when you want to submit agregore-browser eventually to flathub, such a metainfo.xml file is required.
