A relaxing game set in the forest, where you chop down trees to get wood, which you then sell to your customers. This way, you can become very rich!
You walk in the forest & chop down trees. Trees will eventually fall into smaller parts, those smaller logs than can be brought too your truck. Your truck serves as the central order station. You get different orders from customers, requiring you to get x amount of logs from a specific type of wood. After completing an order, you get some euros, currently they can't be used for anything, essentially your only goal is to collect as much money as you can before there are no trees left.
This game is just a small prototype of what could've been a new Steam Release, but I decided it wasn't worth continue on developing, as there are already very familar games to this one on Steam. But non the less, it was a fun little project!
Made this project for father's day, as a present for my father. At some point I even considered making this the next Steam Release after my game Ultima Nex. At the end there were no Steam Release, because the game was too similar to an already existing Tree Choping game, which I knew couldn't make better.
The most difficult and time consuming challenge was to chop down trees. I wanted to be able to chop trees where ever you want, so that the mesh would deform automatically depending on your area of impact. Realizing it would be a quite difficult task to do so, I decided to make the tree split at certain points I specified (now a tree was made out of 5-10 smaller parts). This method turned out more difficult than I initally thought, because I had to split one actor into multiple ones, that work independently from each other. So after choping I would have to move the tree stunks a bit so that the player get the illusion nothing happened.
Currently, I don't have any prebuild builds. If you want to play the game, you have to build UE 5.7 from source and build the dedicated server & client. Prebuild Windows & Linux files will come soon.
- All assets are custom made
- Animations are taken from the UE 5.4 Third Person Sample Project
Caution
You can use code & assets for your own projects without copyright notice or anything. If you want to use the animations, check for the policies from Epic Games, as I'm not sure how they handle that.
Probably could've vibe coded a lot of this project, but for real: For me the fun of a project isn't mainly how the end result is, but the way to the result, coding plays a huge part in that, coding is a lot of fun to me, doing so with AI isn't.
