My name is Bastian Guggenberger, i am a masters student at the Vienna University of Technology, studying Technical Physics and Computational Science and Engineering. My special interest lies in the computational modeling of physics and engineering problems.
Bachelors thesis: Sparse-Tight-Binding for TMDCs: Parameter Reduction through Gradient-based Optimization
Monolayer molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) is a well known transition metal dichalcogenide (TMDC) with a direct band gap of approximately 1.8 eV, making it a promising candidate for applications in optoelectronics and the semicondunctor industry. In my bachelors thesis, i built an algorithm for reducing the complexity of a tight-binding model for a TMDC. The algorithm is able to provide a simplified model, resulting in a faster computation of the band structure.
