Pressing the tilde key opens the console where you can send commands.

After starting to type a word, you can press tab for autocompletion.

Examples of some commands:

/help - display available commands and their usage
/spawn - spawn a number of animals
/reload - reload the scene, restarting the simulation
/pause - pause/unpause the simulation
/timescale - change the simulation speed
/render - disable/enable the camera rendering
/initialpopulation - change the initial population numbers (requires a reload to take effect)
