Code used for generating plots and analysis for the Stranded-Assets paper.
The "Stranded-assets" paper is a journal publicaiton, produced using the CLOVER energy-system model [1], which investigates the concept of asset stranding. A concept often associated with fossil-fuel based systems [2], the work carried out investigates the impact on asset utilisation, leveilised costs of energy, and associated green-house gas emissions as grid reliability and demand vary over time. Currently under consideration for publication, the code provided here allows for the plots generated as part of the study to be reproduced.
The data files used in the study need to be fetched from the relevant Zenodo archive. Link to be provided upon submission to a journal.
The analysis script needs to be run using Python 3.10:
$ python analysis_script.py -unsubf combined_stranded_assets_unsubsidised_grid_results.csv -subf combined_stranded_assets_subsidised_grid_results.csv -g combined_grid_only_simulations_results.csv -strandf combined_stranded_assets_asset_stranding_from_13_hour_grid_results.csvThe command-line arguments and files used are given in the below table.
Table 1. The command-line arguments and files used when running the script.
| CLI argument | File description |
|---|---|
-unsubf |
The optimisations carried out with an unsubsidised (10 cents/kWh) grid connection. |
subf |
The optimisations carried out with a subsidised (6 cents/kWh) grid connection. |
-g |
The results carried out with only grid-sourced electricity available. |
strandf |
The simulations of systems optimised for 13 hours of grid electricity as the reliability of the grid network improves or worsens. |
