Accounts and Login
Bungie.net allows third-party apps like Destiny Item Manager to ask for your permission to interact with your data stored on Bungie's servers. This includes the ability to interact with all of your items in Destiny, your Bungie.net profile, and your activity in Destiny. This allows these apps to provide you with neat functionality without sharing your username and password with them, and you have control over which apps can use your game data. You can also check out DIM's privacy policy for more information about what we store and use.
Once you have logged in, you should stay logged in as long as you use DIM once a month. If you have to log in frequently, it usually means your browser is configured to delete cookies or storage when you close tabs - make sure DIM is exempted from those settings.
If you ever used Google to log into a website, you'll be familiar with the following steps. The first time you use Destiny Item Manager, you will be redirected to Bungie.net to give DIM permission to access your data. You will see a view like this:
You will see an application name, your user name, and the specific abilities that the application is requesting. If you approve DIM to access your information, you'll be redirected back to Destiny Item Manager. At that point, you're ready to go!
You can see a list of applications that are using your information by going to your Bungie.net settings page, under 'Accounts & Linking'. There, you'll have the ability to revoke any application's access to your data, at any time.
You can log out of DIM by clicking "Log Out" in the menu. If you click "Log In" again, you'll be automatically logged back in by Bungie. If you want to log in as a different Bungie.net account, make sure to click "Log in with a different Bungie.net account".
If you want to prevent DIM from being able to access your account at all (for example, if you gave your login info to someone else who now has access to your account), you need to go to Bungie.net's Account Linking page, and either de-authorize DIM, or revoke all companion app sessions. It may take an hour or so for the other sessions to truly be logged out, which is a Bungie.net thing.
