FabMo Operating System Guide

The FabMo engine software is meant to run on a single-board computer (SBC) and the current favored distribution is ArchLinux. ArchLinux provides a lean, simple Linux distribution that is fast, stable, and provides quality package management and key tools that are used as a part of the FabMo platform. The purpose of this guide is to provide a howto on installing ArchLinux on supported hardware, and how to get FabMo installed and running once the basic operating system installation tasks have been completed.

Supported Hardware

Currently FabMo has been confirmed to run on the Beaglebone Black, and all variants of the Raspberry Pi, including the A, B and B+ For the Beaglebone Black, you will need a USB hub to use wifi, since it only has one port, and the G2 hardware needs one to connect to the SBC. In the case of the Raspberry Pi, the on-board hub can be used to connect both a wifi dongle and the G2 hardware simultaneously.

Prerequisites

To get started you'll need:

  1. The target hardware
  2. HDMI display (or other display appropriate to the SBC)

Steps

Create Boot Media To create the boot media, follow the instructions detailed on the archlinux ARM site for your platform. The instructions and downloads are listed below:
