IndexNow Plugin Installation and Configuration Guide

Step 1: Download and Install the Plugin

1. Download the Plugin: Ensure you have the latest version of the IndexNow plugin.
2. Upload Plugin Files: Upload the plugin files to the following directory in your Geeklog installation: /path/to/your/geeklog/plugins/. Then move the files from the plugin’s admin folder to: /path/to/your/geeklog/public_html/admin/plugins/indexnow/
3. Install the Plugin via Admin Panel:
   - Navigate to your Geeklog Admin Panel at:
     https://yourdomain.com/admin/plugins.php
   - Locate IndexNow Plugin in the list and click "Install."
   - The plugin will be installed with its default configuration.

Step 2: Generate an IndexNow Key

To utilize the IndexNow protocol, you must generate a unique API key. Follow these steps:

1. Go to the IndexNow Key Generation Page:
Visit Bing's IndexNow key creation page at:
   https://www.bing.com/webmasters/indexnow
   - Log in to your account or create one if necessary.
   - Generate your unique IndexNow key following the instructions provided on the page.

2. Create and Host the Key File:
   - Once you have the key, create a text file (e.g., your-key.txt) that contains only the key.
   - Upload this file to the root directory of your website, such as:
     https://yourdomain.com/your-key.txt

Step 3: Configure the Plugin

1. Access Plugin Configuration:
In your Geeklog Admin Panel, go to:
   https://yourdomain.com/admin/configuration.php
Then, select the IndexNow plugin configuration.

2. Enter the IndexNow Key:
   - Find the field labeled IndexNow key.
   - Paste the key you generated from Bing into this field.

3. Save the Configuration:
   - Once you’ve entered the key, save your changes.

Step 4: Verify and Test

1. Check Key File Accessibility:
   - Open a browser and navigate to your key file location to verify that it is publicly accessible:
     https://yourdomain.com/your-key.txt
   - Ensure the file contains your key and can be accessed by Bing.

2. Monitor URL Submissions:
   - The plugin automatically submits URLs to IndexNow when you create, update, or delete content on your website.
   - To verify submissions, visit the Bing Webmaster Tools dashboard at:
     https://www.bing.com/webmasters/

Conclusion

The IndexNow plugin is now installed and configured. Your website will automatically notify search engines of new, updated, or deleted content, improving the speed and accuracy of indexing.
