This is an example of what happens if one runs the tool
autopep8on the codebase. This only changes whitespace, everything else is retained, details here https://pypi.org/project/autopep8. So it is obviously only a part of all the style guidelines, but it nevertheless brings the code closer to them + we don't have to worry about any functionality breaking.I suggest implementing this and subsequently just running autopep8 prior to commit. Can most likely be done automatically via Github actions as well if we want.
