The GUI needs to allow that ssh works without a key file and without a password. Also it should not only allow RSA keys. If you want to check if the file is valid use ssh_key_import_privkey_file() |

If a username has been given, then also try the default keys and what is in in ssh-agent.
Untested as I don't have the robot yet ...
