- The projects are re-arranged to move ML related ones first, as this is the GSoC main focus (and some minor formatting).
- The application template is based on the linux foundation one (with attribution).

Pull request overview
This pull request reorganizes the GSoC 2026 project ideas to prioritize machine learning-related projects and adds a new contributor application template based on the Linux Foundation's template.
Changes:
- Rearranged project listings in 2026.md to move ML-related projects (neural network analysis, foreign network format support, backend updates) to the top of the list
- Added a new contributor application template file with structured sections for applicant information, coding skills, and project proposals
- Changed all project headings from level 2 (
##) to level 3 (###) and made minor formatting improvements (removed trailing whitespace)

All project headings were changed from level 2 (##) to level 3 (###), but the "Less concrete projects" section at line 195 still uses level 2 (##). This creates an inconsistent heading hierarchy where individual projects are at the same level or lower than the section they belong to. Consider either keeping all project headings at level 2, or changing "Less concrete projects" to level 2 if projects should be level 3 subsections.

Nit: maybe tidy up the structure now that we have more then one file? Create Rename "2026" and "Application Template" docs to something without "Google Summer of Code" in the name (both titles and file names), as it's under the section already. |
