🕹️ Description of the Project

Anterric is an action-adventure Metroidvania with exploration and resource-gathering RPG mechanics, set in a rich 3D world with 2D characters similar to Paper Mario. Players take on the role of a newly crowned ant queen leading the fight against mind-controlled insects while uncovering a dark mystery beneath the soil.

✨ Key Features:

  • 📖 Gripping Storyline: The player uncovers a termite-controlled conspiracy manipulating the insect world.
  • 🎨 Handcrafted Art & Sound: Unique in-house designed assets and an original soundtrack.
  • ⚔️ Strategic Combat: AI-controlled enemy formations encourage dynamic and tactical battles.
  • 🦾 Progressive Abilities: The queen evolves, gaining new skills and buffs as she levels up.
  • 🌎 Immersive Small World: The game embraces the "A Small World" theme with an intricately designed microcosm of insect life.

🛠️ Instructions for Use

  1. 📥 Install Godot 4 (required to run the game).
  2. ⬇️ Download the project from this GitHub repository.
  3. 📂 Open the project in Godot 4.
  4. ▶️ Run the game by clicking the play button.

⚙️ How It Works

🔄 Core Gameplay Loops

  • ⚔️ Combat Loop: Melee-based combat with sword swings, dodges, and rolls. Smart AI formations create strategic battles.
  • 🌍 Exploration & Discovery: Navigate an underground world filled with diverse enemies and hidden lore.
  • ⛏️ Resource Gathering & Crafting: Collect food and resources to upgrade your colony and improve your abilities.
  • 📜 Quest & Progression Loop: Engage in main quests to defeat stronger enemies and uncover the termite conspiracy.

📚 References

  • Inspired by Hollow Knight, Ori and the Blind Forest, Dead Cells, and Cult of the Lamb.
  • Game developed in Godot 4 using GDScript.

  • Original soundtrack composed specifically for the game using beepbox, a browser-based retro DAW.
