About the PR

If you wideswing you will do less damage
This was a thing in goob and then they got rid of it,, I think it was a bad idea to get rid of it

Why / Balance

Sprite clicking is harder and you should be rewarded for it
I get wideswinging costs stamina but I have never seen anyone get stamcrit from wideswinging,,,, like ever

less damage is lameee, if you wanna make spriteclicking better then buff that! not nerf wideswing

Also the stam is actually a decent penalty, it rarely ever crits you itself, but in combat it pauses your stam regen for a bit so you cant attack and also regen stamina. It makes it much harder to fight and sprint, or fight secoffs.

Someone opened a pr to make sprite clicking do 1.25x damage but I think thats risky
Like you dont want onis doing MORE do you

Its better to make wideswing do less

melee is needs higher damage numbers to be useful, making it more punishing does not improve it at all

Melee damage numbers are fine as they are
Wideswinging doing less damage makes sense because its a lower skill option and it can hit more than one person

Stamina use/regen stopping and hitting unintended/nearby targets is already enough of a penalty to wideswinging. Players that want to be specific about their targets and are skilled enough to do it will hit their targets regardless even with left clicking.

Players with less dexterity due to age, disability, or just not wanting to lock in all the time should not be penalized even more than they already are for no good reason. Even fighting games with better net code and hit detection don't such a steep penalty.

The stamina use is not enough, I genuinely have never seen someone stamcrit from wideswinging

melee doesn’t need a nerf… there’s no real reason to nerf wide swings, all it does is upset balancing for casual players and kinda just everyone in general. I don’t think this should even be touched at all, it’s fine how it is, nerfing wideswing or buffing spriteclicking upsets things and makes it all clunky and adds something not even really needed or wanted

wideswing is called "heavyattack" in yml, it should not be weaker than lightattack (spriteclick) lol. Wideswing can just be set to require stamina.

The more important part is the stam regen pause, the actual damage itself only adds up if your using a super weak weapon in super good stam armor against someone like a secoff with a baton.

Wideswing already does stamina damage

Not nearly enough stamina damage for a "Heavy attack"
I'm cool with it doing a little more damage if you genuinely flop on the floor after wideswinging like three times

Or we keep it as an easier way to hit people at the cost of doing less damage (Its a good idea)

My final statements about this:

  1. this fixes a problem that literally nobody has. melee has never needed a nerf.

  2. If you do wanna make sprite clicking more viable, hitting wide swinging with nerfs, does nothing but upset balance and punish a majority of players over literally nothing

  3. there’s not much demand for something like this, I think melee completely fine in its current state and doesn’t need to be changed

1: This is not a nerf to melee, it just makes it more skill based
2: Making sprite clicking do damage would do far more to upset the balance, unsure what else u mean by making it more viable
3: Literally everyone I've talked to about this has agreed with me aside from you and clive

This method is entierly wrong, wideswing SILL does less damage due to wounds being halfed on wideswing
image
. We aren't tilelocked, wideswing should not be doing less than default damage (ignoring wounds), it's downside should be it consuming more stamina, If you want to make wideswing have even more downsides then just increase the stamina cost.

Wounds do not send you into crit or kill you
By the time you break someones bones odds are they'd already be crit from the ACTUAL damage they have taken
(so breaking bones would be pointless by then)

I seriously don't get whats so hard to understand about punishing people for doing things the easy way

What if wideswing couldn't target a specific body part?
